Empowering pupils in numeracy

Building resilience to empower learners and raise attainment in numeracy

Principal Teacher Sarah Lamont used growth mindset approaches in numeracy to help pupils in her Primary 3/2 class build their resilience, develop emotional self-regulation and learn to embrace mistakes.

Using a framework of ‘Class Dojo’ online films and discussions aimed at nurturing emotional literacy, Sarah’s class learned to express their feelings, embrace challenge and persevere when things were hard. Pre and post measurements demonstrated a significant shift in pupils’ attitudes over the course of the project. Attainment in numeracy is also gradually improving.
