A whole school approach to building a growth mindset culture

When staff at Callander Primary School discovered that a lack of confidence and willingness to have a go was preventing some pupils from achieving their full potential, Depute Headteacher Clair Harvey thought growth mindset might be the answer.

Instilling a sustainable culture of self-confidence and resilience called for a whole school approach. Drawing on the work of Carol Dweck, teaching staff delivered growth mindset activities within classrooms, created growth mindset displays in corridors and shared children’s learning with the wider school community so that pupils, teachers, office staff and parents were all using consistent language.
